8 Natural Ways to Increase White Blood Cell Count

8 Natural Ways to Increase White Blood Cell Count

A number of health conditions can cause the white blood cell count to plummet. Infections, leukemia, cancer treatments, anemia, medications, autoimmune disorders, and even allergies can all take aim at the immune system, weakening it and leaving the body more vulnerable to infections.

What is White Blood Cell Count?

White blood cells are produced in the bone marrow, and typically work as part of the immune system to fight off bacterial and viral infections. What’s considered a “normal” white blood cell count is usually between 4,500 to 10,000 white blood cells (WBCs) per microliter of blood. Those who have 3,500 or less may be considered to have a low WBC (also called “neutropenia”), but not always—it depends on the patient, the doctor, and the situation. A WBC of less than 1,000 is generally always considered too low and an indication of a serious infection risk.

Natural Ways to Boost WBC

Vitamin A, E, C and folic acid.

Increasing your intake of vitamin A will increase lymphocyte white blood cells that attack cancerous cells and foreign invaders that can cause infections. Vitamin C helps to synthesize white blood cells. Folic acid increases neutrophil white blood cells. If you do not get an adequate supply of folic acid in your diet your white blood cell count will lower.

The University of Maryland Medical Center states that selenium can help build up white blood cells. Some studies also indicate that selenium may help prevent some infections. Another study indicated that when the elderly take both zinc and selenium supplements, their immune systems responded better to the flu vaccine than those who took placebo.

Green tea

Green tea is a great source of antioxidants that helps the body fight off infections. Drinking Green tea can help boost the immune system which leads the body to create more WBCs. A study indicates that green tea can replicate some viruses, which means that you may not lose as many the white blood cells to fighting the virus.

Heavy metal testing -Learn the difference between Live Blood

Heavy metal testing -Learn the difference between Live Blood

Some heavy metals, in trace amounts, are beneficial to the body; these include iron, zinc, copper and manganese. Other heavy metals can be poisonous or toxic to the human body; these include arsenic, lead, mercury, cadmium, iron, and others. These metals manifest themselves within the soft tissues of the body and may cause gastrointestinal, neurological, and other serious illness if left untreated. More people are undergoing heavy metal testing, via Live Blood Cell Analysis or Hair Mineral Analysis, to seek answers to some of their acute or long-term health issues. Still others ask for testing to get ahead of any potential health problems.

Heavy metals become poison to the body when the elements deposit in soft tissue and remain there due to the body's inability to metabolize them. Toxic metals enter the body via consumption of food or water; inhalation of polluted air; or absorption through the pores of the skin. People may be exposed to heavy metals at work if they work within the agricultural, manufacturing, or pharmaceutical industries; they may also become exposed in older residential settings where lead paint was used. Both children and adults can be exposed; both acute and long-term poisoning may occur.

Live Blood Cell Analysis is a test whereby a health care practitioner pricks the patient's finger to deliver a drop of blood onto a slide. The specimen is then studied through a high-resolution, dark-field microscope which sends an image to a TV monitor. This type of test is typically performed to detect lead, mercury, cadmium, and aluminum toxicity. It can also be used to test for the number one cause of acute heavy metal poisoning, arsenic; however, since arsenic clears from the blood rapidly, the Live Blood Cell Analysis may prove useless. In this instance, urine tests are more reliable for exposure over the last couple of days, and hair mineral analysis is preferred to detect exposure over the last few months.

Choosing the Right Cookware

Choosing the Right Cookware

We hear a lot about the importance of eating food that’s organically grown and free of pesticides and other harmful toxins. That’s often where the conversation stops. However, should we also give consideration to the cookware we use to prepare the food we eat? Of course nobody wants to eat food with a high aluminum content, but what about preparing food in aluminum cookware? Does that present safety concerns? What about stainless steel cookware? Much research indicates that we need to be as deliberate in the cookware we use as we are in the foods we consume.

The Dangers of Aluminum Cookware

Exposure to, or ingestion of, aluminum can negatively affect the nervous and skeletal system; it’s even thought to be linked to Alzheimer’s disease. [1] Despite this, foods are commonly stored or prepared in aluminum containers which present leaching dangers. This is especially true with acidic and salty foods; citric acid in particular is known to leach aluminum from cookware. [2]

Coffee is not generally known to contain aluminum naturally but when researchers at the Department of Agroenvironmental Chemistry and Plant Nutrition at Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague brewed coffee in aluminum containers, they discovered it to produce detectable levels of aluminum in the coffee. [3]

Wellness Carafe Purifies Water

It’s also important to note that sometimes foods may be prepared in aluminum containers before it even reaches you. The Department of Food Hygiene and Control at Egypt’s Mansoura University found levels of aluminum in milk stored in aluminum containers (likely at the production level). [4]

Boiling water in aluminum cookware prior to use will greatly decrease the amount of aluminum leached, but the best choice is to simply avoid aluminum cookware altogether. [5]

The Dangers of Stainless Steel Cookware

Stainless steel is used in home and commercial cookware but, like aluminum, stainless is readily attacked by acids, particularly at cooking temperatures, and its components can be released into food. The Division of Science, Engineering and Technology at Pennsylvania State found that stainless utensils exposed to even mildly acidic conditions at boiling temperature caused nickel, chromium, and iron corrosion. [6] Research conducted at Texas Tech University College of Human Sciences concluded with similar determinations. [7]

Although it does not completely solve the problem, the Hôpital Edouard Herriot in France recommends that individuals with nickel sensitivity should use nickel-free stainless steel. [8]

The Dangers of Non Stick Cookware

Perhaps one of the most common types of cookware is that which is non-stick. If you’ve ever used sub-par cookware, you probably know how easy it is for some cooking surfaces to cause burnt food to lock on with cement-like attachment. This is a pain to clean up and it ruins the food. Non-stick cookware is designed to prevent this problem, but it also introduces new safety concerns.

Plastics chemical BPA reduces sperm health

Plastics chemical BPA reduces sperm health

Exposure to the ubiquitous industrial chemical bisphenol A (BPA) has once again been linked to decreased sperm health, this time in humans, in a study conducted by researchers from Kaiser Permanente and published in the journal Fertility and Sterility.

The findings are of particular concern because symptoms were found at very low exposures, and because BPA is so widespread.

"BPA, a plastic and resin ingredient used to make a wide variety of plastic goods and to line metal food and drink cans (ever wonder how those canned contents slip so easily out and onto your plate, or into your bowl or mouth?), is a toxin associated with birth defects of the male and female reproductive systems," write Brenda Watson and Leonard Smith in their book The Detox Strategy.

"BPA is commonplace -- found in copious brands of fruit, vegetables, soda, and other frequently eaten canned goods. It migrates from the can or plastic into the contents, which are then ingested."

BPA is also found in coatings of electronics, in paper receipts and a variety of other common products.

In the current study, researchers followed 218 workers at a Chinese epoxy resin factory for five years, testing urine samples for BPA and measuring sperm concentration, count, motility, morphology and vitality.

They found that men with the highest BPA concentrations in their urine were four times more likely to have low sperm count and twice as likely to have low sperm motility as men with no detectable BPA levels. Men with high concentrations also had significantly lower sperm concentration and vitality.

The effects were found at levels common among the general population.

5 Facts about Calorie Restriction

5 Facts about Calorie Restriction

Calorie restriction is defined as a reduction of 30-60% of one’s regular calorie intake while maintaining a diet that provides enough nutrients to prevent malnutrition. Scientists believe calorie restriction stimulates a defensive state designed to help an organism survive environmental and metabolic adversity. This non-genetic strategy has been observed to encourage youthfulness and extend average and maximum lifespan in most living creatures. [1]

Why Caloric Restriction?

Many individuals choose to pursue the approach of calorie restriction for its supposed anti-aging effects. Calorie restriction has been shown to extend longevity in animal models via a number of proposed metabolic avenues. Whether it’s activating sirtuin production, protecting telomere length, or reducing oxidative stress, safe calorie restriction with optimal nutrition (CRON) may be a helpful way to support a healthy aging process. Calorie restriction is by no means the end all and be all of longevity, but it is a good first start that is free to try.

How Does it Work?

The precise mechanisms as to how calorie restriction works are not yet known. Despite the lack of understanding by modern science, there are some clues as to how CRON benefits the body. Researchers hypothesize caloric restriction lowers metabolism, decreasing the oxidation often associated with metabolic processes. Calorie restriction, or CR, also decreases insulin levels and stimulates cell repair. Sirtuins, proteins that regulate many biological pathways, are activated during calorie restriction, and studies show that these proteins may extend lifespan. Whatever the mechanism, it does reduce the body’s production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) which reduces damage to DNA.

Potential Benefits

So, you may know that calorie restriction plays a role in supporting a healthy aging process, but did you know that the practice offers specific approaches to health? Here are some of the top researched benefits of CR.

Decreases Risk of Heart Disease

Caloric restriction shows positive effects on many of the causes associated with heart disease. Studies have found it helps protect against obesity and hypertension, health conditions that greatly influence heart disease risk. [2] Adiponectin, a hormone that increases production under physical stressors (including that of caloric restriction) promotes cardiovascular and metabolic health. [3] Only a subset of heart disease patients should consider calorie restriction alongside professional medical advice. Read more

Forget everything else and do this one thing if you want to

Forget everything else and do this one thing if you want to

A lot goes into losing weight, but your success may actually hinge upon just one thing.

Your level of stress.

The link between stress and obesity has been so well established that it's no longer contested by any credible source. Every legitimate medical, nutritional and obesity research outlet agrees. Western medicine and alternative practitioners are united on this one.

The biochemical relationship between high stress and obesity is not a myth. Stress makes it so much harder to lose weight due to the tidal wave of hormonal changes that comes with it.

If you accept this link between high stress and obesity, you'd actually be better off focusing on a strict stress elimination protocol, rather than a strict dietary regimen.
Impact of stress on weight loss

High stress:

• Prevents break down of fat and causes your body to store fat.
• Causes hormonal changes that make you insatiably hungry.
• Causes unhappiness, which leads to reward eating.
• Contributes to impaired sleep, which inhibits weight loss. Read more

Effects of Pesticides

Effects of Pesticides

If it has the suffix –cide in it, then you know it’s meant to kill something. Pesticides are designed to kill insects, fungus, bacteria and other things that feed on crops, are vectors for disease, nuisances, and things that destroy property. Farming is big business and some farming companies are bottom-line driven, in business to make money at any cost. Pesticides and genetically modified organisms are a way to ensure they get the crop yield they demand, no matter how it hurts the environment or the consumers.

Two types of pesticides are biological and chemical. Biological pesticides can be developed using fungi, bacteria, and other organically present substances. Some biological pesticides are microorganisms that, without any manipulation, demonstrate natural effectiveness in targeted pest control. These generally aren’t toxic to humans or animals and don’t leave a persistent residue.

Who is to Blame?

Seven of the most toxic chemical compounds know to man are approved for use as pesticides in the production of foods! Who approved them? A multinational organization called The Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC). It was formed in 1963 from a cooperative effort between the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Their overall objective was “…to protect the health of the consumer and ensure fair practices.” The intent of the original 172 nations involved in this effort was to develop a set of food guidelines, standards, and codes of practice. It was to be an international endeavor to promote safety in food. In spite of their stated consumer protection responsibilities, the CAC approved toxic chemicals for use on our crops. These toxins are referred to as Persistent Organic Pollutants (POP’s). They’re called persistent because they are not easily removed from the environment.

The greatest risk to our environment and our health comes from the chemical pesticides. In spite of the dangers, the government maintains its approval of the use of toxic chemicals to make pesticides. And science is constantly developing variations of poisons.

Broad-spectrum and Narrow-spectrum Pesticides

Broad-spectrum pesticides kill many pests, while narrow-spectrum pesticides do just the opposite. Narrow-spectrum pesticides are developed to kill specific organism types. Examples are algicides for algae, avicides for birds, fungicides for fungi and oomycetes (also called water molds, they use surface water including precipitation on plants, to move around). Most pesticides kill pests directly on contact. Systemic pesticides work differently. They penetrate to the inside of a plant traveling along its absorption path. These poisons work by poisoning the pollen and nectar of flowers and this can kill needed pollinators like butterflies and bees.

Pesticides and Bees

Pesticides are a major threat to bees. The systemic poisoning of flowers has killed scores of bees. We’re simply losing too many of them. The bees and butterflies among others are pollinators and they represent a natural tour de force in perpetuating plant cycles and evolution. You see, they do cross-pollination naturally. More than 25% of the bee colonies died in winter 2006/07. That translates to a loss of tens of billions of bees. And it’s estimated that this loss will negatively impact the agricultural economy to the tune of $8 to $12 billion.

Who’s at Risk for Exposure to Pesticides?

Farmers and their families and other persons who use chemical pesticides regularly are at greatest risk for achieving toxic levels in their bodies. The danger is spread out to larger areas, as the pesticides:

Are carried on the wind
Leave residues on produce
Remain inside produce and animals
Run off into open water, contaminating public water supply as well as fish and other seafood

Anyone who uses pesticides or is present when pesticides are sprayed is at risk for dangerous exposure. The pesticides can enter the body through skin, eyes, mouth and nose.

What are the Dangers from Pesticides Exposure?

Pesticides can be toxic to humans and lower animals. It can take a small amount of some toxins to kill. And other toxins that are slower acting, may take a long time to cause harm to the human body.

9 Step Body Cleanse Kit

Pesticide production can be dangerous, too. One disaster at a pesticide manufacturing plant was in Bhopal, India. The plant accidentally released 40 tons of an intermediate chemical gas, methyl isocyanate, used to produce some pesticides. In that disaster, nearly 3,000 people were killed immediately, overall approximately 15,000 deaths occurred. Today nearly 100,000 people suffer from mild to severe permanent damage as a result of that disaster.

Children seem to be greatly susceptible to the toxic effects of pesticides. The Natural Resource Defense Council has collected data which recorded higher incidence of childhood leukemia, brain cancer and birth defects. These results correlated with early exposure to pesticides.

Even just using pesticides in amounts within regulation, studies have revealed neurotoxins can do serious damage during development. Researchers report the dangers of pesticides can start as early as fetal stages of life. The Pesticides entry at lists some of the results that have been recorded in recent years including:

- Fetuses, (pre-birth babies), may suffer from exposure and exhibit behavioral problems, growth issues
- Lower cognitive scores, fewer nerve cells and lower birth weight
- A lower resistance to the toxic effects of pesticides
- A greater risk (70% increase), for Parkinson’s disease, even with low levels of pesticides

New Study Proves Any Amount of BPA Harms Reproductive Health

New Study Proves Any Amount of BPA Harms Reproductive Health

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an endocrine disrupting chemical used in the manufacturing of plastics and it’s found in a huge range of products; everything from water bottles to paper receipts. Studies have shown that BPA can leach from these plastic and epoxy products and enter the human body by being ingested, absorbed through the skin, or inhaled. While the FDA announced in July that BPA in food packaging is safe, new research suggests that BPA is harmful to the human reproductive system even in small amounts.

New Findings Show BPA is More Harmful Than Originally Thought

The effects of BPA have historically been difficult to study because the chemical has different mechanisms of action in different tissues, species, doses, and windows of exposure. However, one review of studies published between 2007 and 2013 has given researchers a broader perspective of BPA’s effects on reproductive health. [1] The authors of the review found strong evidence that BPA is an ovarian toxicant as well as a prostate and uterine toxicant. There was concern about BPA’s effects on birth weight as well.

Reduce Your Exposure to BPA

Avoiding BPA in today’s world isn’t easy; however, there are ways to reduce exposure, thus reducing risk for reproductive issues later down the road. Saying no to plastic bottles and foods with packaging — particularly the ones that aren’t labeled BPA-free — is a great start to eliminating BPA from your life. Only take paper receipts if you absolutely need them, or choose electronic receipts if at all possible. Have the majority of your food as whole and raw, and reduce the use of processed foods, particularly if they are stored in plastic packaging and aluminum cans. Periodically cleansing your body is also a great way to help reduce your toxin load. Read more

Fasting for Weight Loss

Fasting for Weight Loss

Fasting is a great way to begin a new fitness or weight loss program. Reducing or, really, eliminating food and beverages that contribute to weight gain will help to kick-start your efforts and has the added benefit of body detoxification and colon cleansing. Some people fast by only eliminating solid food from their diet, while others prefer to eliminate both solid food and all beverages except water. Which one you choose really depends on your starting points and personal health considerations.

Advantages and Cautions

By immediately reducing your caloric intake, fasting will produce immediate, short-term effects. Fat that has already been stored in your body will be used for energy that would normally come from calories in consumed foods and beverages. Using fat means losing fat.

Additionally, toxins contained within this fat will be eliminated through sweat, urine, and feces. Skin tone, oral health, and cardiovascular health are positively affected by fasting for weight loss. Short-term elimination of food intake also gives your body the necessary rest and recuperation needed to maintain optimal health.

There are some disadvantages to fasting and things to be considered. When beginning a fast, many people cite general lethargy and headaches as common side effects. Also, a long term fast will cause your body and metabolism, to slow down as your body enters a “starvation mode” to protect itself. This can be counterproductive and a feeling of low energy and a weakened immune system via a loss of nutrients can result. Over a long period of time, this can prove detrimental to your health.

Supportive Research

The Center for Conservative Therapy in Penngrove, California found that water-only fasting produced favorable results (normalized blood pressure) for individuals with hypertension and was beneficial for starting a health-promoting diet and jump-starting lifestyle changes. [1]

The Laboratory of Neurosciences in Baltimore noted multiple benefits with intermittent fasting and/or a caloric restricted diet in the form of enhanced cardiovascular function, improved brain function, blood pressure reduction, and an overall decrease in the risk factors that contribute to coronary artery disease. Defeat Lyme disease without antibiotics

Defeat Lyme disease without antibiotics

Let's be blunt: Western medicine will never really cure Lyme disease because the focus (like everything they do) is on symptoms, not the underlying cause. In fact, sadly, if you've been suffering with Lyme disease for some time, you've probably been labeled with a mental illness and largely ignored by conventionally-trained physicians.

Defeat Lyme disease without harmful medications. On the next NaturalNews Talk Hour, Jonathan Landsman and David Getoff, a Traditional naturopath will talk about a specific way to test, treat and eliminate the negative effects of Lyme without the need for toxic drugs.

What if conventional 'wisdom' surrounding Lyme disease is all wrong?

According to the Centers for Disease Control, up to 300,000 people get Lyme – every year! On top of that, millions of people are suffering and don't even know they have Lyme disease. Normally, people assume that a tick is responsible for this dreadful condition but, holistically-minded doctors have a very different point of view.

Lyme is actually caused by a weak immune system, damaged cellular function, uncontrolled bacterial infections throughout the body and other environmental triggers such as, mold and parasites. Conventional medicine doesn't even recognize the possibility of parasitic infections and standard rounds of antibiotics are ineffective – at best – toward solving the problem.

Bottom line, to cure Lyme disease (naturally) – one MUST improve immune function, cellular metabolism, eliminate toxins and reduce stress. The focus should be on improving overall health, NOT 'killing' a dis-ease. Make lifestyle changes, be patient and persistent plus never give up.

To learn more about how to naturally cure Lyme disease – be sure to join us on the next NaturalNews Talk Hour with Jonathan Landsman and David Getoff, a Traditional naturopath and clinical nutritionist.

The myths and severity of Lyme disease exposed

According to David Getoff, "Lyme can cause all sorts of different conditions and all sorts of different symptoms. If someone has joint pain it could be Lyme, if someone has neurological symptoms is could be Lyme, chronic headaches might be Lyme, and fatigue might be Lyme."

Even the Mayo Clinic admits that Lyme disease can cause Bell's Palsy and numbness in the limbs.

And, now it's time to expose the biggest myth surrounding Lyme disease, according to David Getoff:

"The belief system that medicine has and is still being taught today – which is unless you've been bitten by a deer tick, you can't have Lyme – is simply wrong." Read more

A Brief History of the Invention of Silver Fuzion®

Silver Fuzion® is the result of unparalleled ancient wisdom reinterpreted in the light of modern equipment and analysis.

Silver has historically been used to support the body's immune system and response to harmful organisms. As one of the oldest remedies in the world, its use can be traced back to the Greek and Roman Empires. In the 1700’s, silver baby pacifiers were common and early American settlers would even place silver dollars in milk and water containers to maintain freshness. Prior to antibiotics, silver was used in hospitals. By the early 20th century, colloidal silver had gained recognition as one of the best solutions to promote good health.

Silver Fuzion® is liquid colloidal silver produced by over 20,000 volts of high voltage AC (HVAC) technology. With a triple distilled water base and 99.999% pure silver, Silver Fuzion® is the premiere formula for the discriminating individual. When you use Silver Fuzion®, you are feeding your body nutrients that support normal health.

The Top 5 Reasons You Need Silver Fuzion®

1. Premiere Immune System Support

Silver has been used for centuries to boost the immune system. Silver Fuzion® is produced from 99.999% pure silver!

2. Active Defense Against Harmful Organisms

Many unfriendly organisms survive in the presence of certain enzymes produced by the human body. Rather than attack the harmful organisms, silver normalizes the enzymes that harmful organisms feed on and creates an environment in which they cannot thrive.
